This study aimed to assess the causal relationship between lipidome and female reproductive diseases (FRDs) using an advanced series of Mendelian randomization (MR) methods. This study utilized genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics encompassing 179 lipidomes and six prevalent FRDs, namely polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, uterine fibroid, female infertility, uterine endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer. The two-sample MR (TSMR) approach was employed to investigate the causal relationships, with further validation using false discovery rate (FDR) and multivariable MR (MVMR) methods.

Amidine-functionalized aggregation-induced emission luminogen and a 3D-printed digital sensor platform for ultrafast and visual detection of heparin.

Anal Chim Acta

February 2025

College of Chemistry, Henan Joint International Research Laboratory of Green Construction of Functional Molecules and Their Bioanalytical Applications, Food Laboratory of Zhongyuan, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, 450001, China.

Background: Heparin is a widely used anticoagulant in clinic. However, improper dosing can increase the risk of thromboembolic events, potentially leading to life-threatening complications. Clinic monitoring of heparin is very important for its use safety.

Effects of DHEA and DHEAS in Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Brain Injury.

Antioxidants (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Pediatrics II (Neonatology), Medical University of Innsbruck, Anichstraße 35, 6020 Innsbruck, Austria.

Neonatal brain injury remains a significant issue with limited treatment options. This study investigates the potential of the endogenous neurosteroid dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfate ester (DHEAS) as neuroprotective agents, building on evidence of their mechanisms in adult brain injury models. The primary objective was to evaluate their neuroprotective and anti-oxidative properties in a mouse model of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.

Microorganisms are preferred as an enzyme source due to their short lifespan, high production rate, affordability, and absence of harmful chemicals in enzymes generated from plant and animal sources. Fungi communities are biological factories for many bioactive compounds such as the important industrial enzyme pectinase. The current study dealt with production, optimization, purification, biocompatibility, and application of fungal pectinase obtained from five plant rhizospheres (banana, jarawa, lemon, tomato, and wheat) at Fayoum Governorate, Egypt.

An empirical equation relating electrophoretic mobility and ionic strength was proposed. The equation includes a number of parameters that are found using the mobilities of reference ions: two coefficients in the numerator describing the linear relationship of the multiplier in front of the square root of the ionic strength with the product of the ion mobility in the background electrolyte (BGE) without additives by the modulus of the charge number, raised to a certain power, and also the multiplier in the denominator before the square root of the ionic strength. The proposed equation was tested using the mobilities measured in BGEs with the addition of sodium chloride to adjust ionic strength and sulfated β-cyclodextrin (S-β-CD) for 11 anions with charge numbers from -1 to -4.
