Recent advancements in tissue engineering have promoted the development of nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) that significantly enhance peripheral nerve injury treatment, improving outcomes and recovery rates. However, utilising tailored biomimetic three-dimensional (3D) topological porous structures combined with multiple bio-effect neurotrophic factors to create environments similar to neural tissues, regulate local immune responses, and develop a supportive microenvironment to promote peripheral nerve regeneration and repair poses significant challenges. Herein, a biomimetic extracellular matrix (ECM) NGC featuring an interconnected 3D porous network and sustained delivery of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is designed using multi-functional gelatine microcapsules (GMs).

The prognosis of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) with primary central nervous system (CNS) involvement has been unclear since the advent of new therapies. Recently, we have shown that flow cytometric CD7/CADM1 analysis of CD4 + cells (HAS-Flow) is useful to detect ATL cells that are not morphologically diagnosed as ATL cells. We investigated the role of CNS involvement in ATL using cytology and HAS-Flow by analyzing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 73 aggressive ATL cases.

Biosorption of heavy metals by microalgae: hazardous side effects for marine organisms.

Chemosphere

January 2025

ING PAN - Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences, Research Centre in Kraków, Senacka 1 Str., PL31002 Kraków, Poland.

Biosorption is nowadays recommended as an ecological and environmentally friendly alternative to remove metals from contaminated regions. Even in situ incubations of algae on the seabed are conducted to investigate potential future ways of reducing metal contamination. Our study investigated the negative effects on microorganisms when metal-enriched algae are released into the marine environment.

Correlation of Histologic Features with Gene Alterations in Pleural Mesothelioma.

Mod Pathol

January 2025

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York, 10065, USA. Electronic address:

Histologic features, including architectural patterns, cytologic features, and 2021 World Health Organization nuclear grade have been shown to have prognostic significance in epithelioid diffuse pleural mesothelioma (DPM). Biphasic and sarcomatoid DPM, regardless of morphology, have worse outcomes. These prognostic findings are well-established but correlation of architectural patterns, cytologic features, and nuclear grade with genetic alterations has not been well studied.

Introduction: This study critically evaluates adherence to Pap test screening practices in cytology-based cervical cancer screening in the state of Amazonas over a 10-year period.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of the results of cytological screening examinations (Pap test) in Amazonas State from 2013 to 2023. For this purpose, Brazilian public databases Cervical Cancer Information System (SISCOLO) and Cancer Information System (SISCAN) (from The Department of Information and IT of the Unified Health System - DATASUS) were consulted.
