The concept of "disinhibition" appeared in 1956 (Broussolle and Dubor) with a study of the activity of prochlorpémazine in chronic schizophrenia. Each chemical group of neuroleptics includes at least one or two disinhibitory compounds. This activity intervenes upon the affective and intellectual life without necessarily the usual extra-pyramidal akathisia side-effects.
