Coral reef aorta (CRA), a rare disease, is characterized by severe calcification of the juxta-renal and suprarenal aorta that grows into the lumen and leads to severe stenosis. A 70-year-old woman with refractory hypertension and lower limb claudication presented with hypertension and congestive heart failure. Treatment with vasodilators and diuresis led to oliguria and exacerbated kidney function, while her congestion remained.

Background: Combined use of furosemide with albumin is an approved therapy to overcome diuretic resistance in treatment of ascites in decompensated chronic liver disease. Bolus dosing of diuretics has its own limitations due to pre-existing hypotension, post diuretic sodium retention and braking phenomenon. Slow albumin and furosemide Infusion has been shown to mobilize large ascites with improved diuresis and hemodynamic stability in decompensated chronic liver disease.

Aim: Therapeutic use of lithium in bipolar disorder is limited by the development of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI). We reported that pharmacological blockade of P2Y receptor (R) with clopidogrel or prasugrel significantly ameliorated lithium-induced NDI in rodents. Using mice genetically lacking P2Y -R we evaluated whether the observed amelioration is mediated through P2Y -R METHODS: P2ry12 mouse line (C57/BL6) was rederived from cryopreserved embryos of the knockout (KO) mice generated by Deltagen Inc.

Background: Hyponatremia (defined as serum sodium <135 mEq/L) is the most common electrolyte abnormality in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and is also an independent predictor of poor neurologic outcome. The reported incidence of hyponatremia varies widely in literature reports, and there is continuing difficulty in clearly differentiating between the 2 common causes of hyponatremia with natriuresis: the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) and cerebral salt wasting (CSW). We encounter hyponatremia frequently in our practice, and we therefore decided to review data from our center to estimate the incidence of hyponatremia and the results of our management strategies, and attempt to formulate simple guidelines for the correction of hyponatremia in TBI.

Introduction: Three modalities for treating chronic kidney failure are peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, and kidney transplantation. Among them kidney transplantation is cost-efficient and leads to a somewhat normal quality of life. In this approach, most often the external iliac artery is selected for anastomosis, but this could be disastrous if anastomosis leads to a complication.
