Background: Asthma is a leading cause of children's hospitalizations, emergency department visits, and missed school days. Our school-based asthma intervention has reduced asthma exacerbations for children experiencing health disparities in the Denver Metropolitan Area, due partly to addressing care coordination for asthma and social determinants of health (SDOH), such as access to healthcare and medications. Limited dissemination of school-based asthma programs has occurred in other metropolitan and rural areas of Colorado.

Chronic arsenic exposure is a global health hazard significantly associated with the development of deleterious cutaneous changes and increased keratinocyte cancer risk. Although arsenic exposure is associated with broad-scale cellular and molecular changes, gaps exist in understanding how these changes impact the skin and facilitate malignant transformation. Recently developed epigenetic "clocks" can accurately predict chronological, biological and mitotic age, as well as telomere length, on the basis of tissue DNA methylation state.

Novel Polygenic Risk Score and Established Clinical Risk Factors for Risk Estimation of Aortic Stenosis.

JAMA Cardiol

April 2024

Cardiovascular Medicine Division, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to develop a polygenic risk score (PRS) specifically for aortic stenosis and compare its effectiveness against traditional clinical risk factors.
  • This research involved analyzing data from large cohorts, including over 135,000 participants from the Million Veteran Program and various clinical trials between 2011 and 2020.
  • The findings indicated that the new aortic stenosis PRS, which utilized millions of genetic variants, may provide significant risk estimation for the condition compared to established clinical methods.

Comprehensive analysis of color-tunable luminescence of Sm/Eu ions co-incorporated tellurite glasses for optical device applications.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc

January 2024

Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, Howrah 711103, West Bengal, India. Electronic address:

The effects of co-doping Eu ions in Sm embedded WO-NaO-MgO-TeO glasses have been explored. The XRD spectrum determines the amorphous nature of the prepared sample. The UV-Visible spectra show that the dominant absorption bands occur at F → L (393 nm) and F → D (463 nm) for Eu doped glass and the dominant absorption band for Sm ions doped glass arises at H → P (402 nm).

Comprehensive analysis of the relationship between cuproptosis-related genes and esophageal cancer prognosis.

World J Clin Cases

November 2022

General Surgery, Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai 200434, China.

Background: Esophageal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system, with a 5-year survival rate of 15% to 50%. Cuproptosis, a unique kind of cell death driven by protein lipoylation, is strongly connected to mitochondrial metabolism. The clinical implications of cuproptosis-related genes in esophageal cancer, however, are mainly unknown.
