Chemical upcycling of polybutadiene into size controlled α,ω-dienes and diesters sequential hydrogenation and cross-metathesis.

Chem Sci

January 2025

Centre for Membrane Separations, Adsorption, Catalysis and Spectroscopy for Sustainable Solutions (cMACS), KU Leuven Celestijnenlaan 200F, Post Box 2454 3001 Leuven Belgium

Plastic waste conversion into valuable chemicals is a promising alternative to landfill or incineration. In particular, the chemical upcycling of polybutadiene rubber (PBR) could provide a renewable route towards highly desirable α,ω-dienes with varying chain lengths, which can find ample industrial application. While previous research has shown that the treatment of polybutadiene with a consecutive hydrogenation and ethenolysis reaction can afford long-chain α,ω-dienes, achieving precise control over the product chain length remains an important bottleneck.

Comparative Sensitivity of MRI Indices for Myelin Assessment in Spinal Cord Regions.

Tomography

January 2025

Laboratory for Biomarker Imaging Science, Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering, Hokkaido University, N15 W7, Kita-ku, Sapporo 060-8638, Japan.

Although multiple magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) indices are known to be sensitive to the noninvasive assessment of myelin integrity, their relative sensitivities have not been directly compared. This study aimed to identify the most sensitive MRI index for characterizing myelin composition in the spinal cord's gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM). MRI was performed on a deer's ex vivo cervical spinal cord.

Impact of activation energy on carreau nanofluid flow over non-linear stretching surface.

Heliyon

January 2024

Department of Mathematics, College of Science Al-Zulfi, Majmaah University, Al-Majmaah 11952, Saudi Arabia.

- The main goal of this article is to outline the key elements of activation energy that govern the slip flow of Carreau fluid over a non-linear stretched surface with heat transfer. By using the Arrhenius relation, activation energy aspects are included. Brownian diffusion and thermophoretic effects are shown through the study of nanoparticle dispersion using the Buongiorno model.

Electronic address:

Biodegradable plastics (BP) have undergone rapid development in the field of replacing traditional packaging plastics. However, their recycling and disposal systems are unclear, and the standards are different, causing new environmental pollution. The rapid and appropriate disposal of BP has become a worthy direction of exploration.

Physical interactions between polypeptide chains and lipid membranes underlie critical cellular processes. Yet, despite fundamental importance, key mechanistic aspects of these interactions remain elusive. Bulk experiments have revealed a linear relationship between free energy and peptide chain length in a model system, but does this linearity extend to the interaction strength and to the kinetics of lipid binding? To address these questions, we utilized a combination of coarse-grained molecular dynamics (CG MD) simulations, analytical modeling, and atomic force microscopy (AFM)-based single molecule force spectroscopy.
