Background: Most studies to assess effort intolerance in patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) have used questionnaires. Few studies have compared questionnaires with objective measures like an actometer or an exercise test. This study compared three measures of physical activity in ME/CFS patients: the physical functioning scale (PFS) of the SF-36, the number of steps/day (Steps) using an actometer, and the %peak VO of a cardiopulmonary stress test.

Unlabelled: This study evaluates the impact of antibiotic treatments and hospitalization on exercise performance and health-related quality of life (QOL) in children with mild cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. Forty-seven children between 7 and 17 years with mild CF underwent a maximal exercise test including spiro-ergometry and filled out a QOL-questionnaire (PedsQL™). Amount of antibiotic treatments (AB) and hospitalization days in the last 3 years were reviewed.

Background: Aerobic exercise capacity is considered as an independent prognostic factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality. It is usually expressed in maximal oxygen consumption (VO2(max)) or metabolic equivalent (MET) and is measured by spiroergometry or calculated by a regression formula based on maximal performance achieved. Obesity is associated with reduced physical performance and increased cardiovascular mortality.

Aims: This study is the first prospective randomized trial evaluating the efficacy of an antiarrhythmic surgical procedure in patients with chronic atrial fibrillation undergoing mitral valve replacement.
Methods And Results: Thirty consecutive patients with chronic atrial fibrillation undergoing mitral valve replacement were randomized for an additional modified MAZE-operation using intra-operatively cooled-tip radiofrequency ablation (group A) or mitral valve replacement alone (group B). Biatrial contraction was studied and functional capacity was evaluated in spiro-ergometry 6 months after surgery.
