Male tephritid fruit flies typically emit pheromones from rectal glands to attract mates. Consistent with this, virgin females of the cucumber fruit fly, Zeugodacus cucumis (French), were found to be attracted to volatiles emitted by crushed male rectal glands in Y-tube olfactometer bioassays. Electrophysiological studies identified several male rectal gland compounds that triggered responses in female antennae.

Magnetic field-oriented conductive decellularized extracellular matrix hydrogel synergizes with electrical stimulation to promote spinal cord injury repair and electrophysiological function restoration.

Key Laboratory for Ultrafine Materials of Ministry of Education, Frontiers Science Center for Materiobiology and Dynamic Chemistry, Engineering Research Center of Biomedical Materials of Ministry of Education, School of Materials Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai 200237, PR China. Electronic address:

Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in electrophysiological and behavioral dysfunction. Electrical stimulation (ES) is considered to be an effective treatment for mild SCI; however, ES is not applicable to severe SCI due to the disruption of electrical conduction caused by tissue defects. Therefore, the use of conductive materials to fill the defects and restore electrical conduction in the spinal cord is a promising therapeutic strategy.

Regulation of Glutamate Transporter Type 1 by TSA and the Antiepileptic Mechanism of TSA.

Neurochem Res

January 2025

Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tongji Medical College, Wuhan, Hubei, 430000, China.

Epilepsy (EP) is a neurological disorder characterized by abnormal, sudden neuronal discharges. Seizures increase extracellular glutamate levels, causing excitotoxic damage. Glutamate transporter type 1 (GLT-1) and its human homologue excitatory amino acid transporter-2 (EAAT2) clear 95% of extracellular glutamate.

The analysis of electrophysiological recordings of the human brain in resting state is a key experimental technique in neuroscience. Resting state is the default condition to characterize brain dynamics. Its successful implementation relies both on the capacity of subjects to comply with the requirement of staying awake while not performing any cognitive task, and on the capacity of the experimenter to validate that compliance.

Key shifts in frontoparietal network activity in Parkinson's disease.

NPJ Parkinsons Dis

January 2025

Brain Electrophysiology and Epilepsy Lab (BEE-L), Epilepsy and EEG Unit, Neurological Institute, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel.

We aimed to study the effect of Parkinson's disease (PD) and motor-cognitive load on the interplay between activation level and spatial complexity. To that end, 68 PD patients and 30 controls underwent electroencephalography (EEG) recording while executing visual single- and dual- Go/No-go tasks. The EEG underwent source localization, followed by parcellation of the neural activity into 116 regions of interest.
