Advancements in delivery strategies and non-tissue culture regeneration systems for plant genetic transformation.

Adv Biotechnol (Singap)

September 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Applied Botany, South China, Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangzhou, China.

Plant genetic transformation is a pivotal and essential step in modifying important agronomic traits using biotechnological tools, which primarily depend on the efficacy of transgene delivery and the plant regeneration system. Over the years, advancements in the development of delivery methods and regeneration systems have contributed to plant engineering and molecular breeding. Recent studies have demonstrated that the efficiency of plant transformation can be improved by simultaneously delivering meristem-developmental regulators, utilizing virus-mediated gene editing, and executing non-sterile in planta manipulations.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a type of hemorrhagic stroke with high morbidity, mortality and disability, and early brain injury (EBI) after SAH is crucial for prognosis. Recently, stem cell therapy has garnered significant attention in the treatment of neurological diseases. Compared to other stem cells, dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) possess several advantages, including abundant sources, absence of ethical concerns, non-invasive procurement, non-tumorigenic history and neuroprotective potential.

Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a complex condition marked by persistent distressing thoughts and repetitive behaviours. Despite its prevalence, the mechanisms behind OCD remain elusive, and current treatments are limited. This protocol outlines an investigative study for individuals with OCD, exploring the potential of psilocybin to improve key components of cognition implicated in the disorder.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been prevailing for more than a year, associated with an increased number of opportunistic invasive fungal infections in patients who have been critically ill or immunocompromised. In this retrospective study, details of various clinical specimens received from suspected patients of fungal infections were studied. Fungal cultures were positive in 64% (51 out of 79) of COVID-19-positive patients and 43% (163 out of 381) of COVID-19-negative patients during the second wave of COVID-19 in 2021.

Background: Cell-free regenerative strategies, such as notochordal cell (NC)-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs), are an attractive alternative in developing new therapies for intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration. NC-EVs have been reported to elicit matrix anabolic effects on nucleus pulposus cells from degenerated IVDs cultured under basal conditions. However, the degenerative process is exacerbated by pro-inflammatory cytokines contributing to the vicious degenerative cycle.
