The respiration of KCl-stimulated cortical slices of brain from control rats is markedly depressed by morphine, whereas the respiration of those from rats chronically dosed with morphine is unaffected. The results demonstrate an adaptation to morphine at the cellular level which is concomitant with the adaptation of the whole animal to morphine

Opioid use disorder is heritable, yet its genetic etiology is largely unknown. C57BL/6J and C57BL/6NJ mouse substrains exhibit phenotypic diversity in the context of limited genetic diversity which together can facilitate genetic discovery. Here, we found C57BL/6NJ mice were less sensitive to oxycodone (OXY)-induced locomotor activation versus C57BL/6J mice in a conditioned place preference paradigm.

Purpose: Negative beliefs about cancer pain and morphine are detrimental to pain interpretation. Patients with high resourcefulness often proactively address problems to cope with stress, and establish problem-solving strategies. The aim of the project is to investigate the impact of resourcefulness and pain interpretation on cancer-related pain control.

Purpose: Define the impact of the implementation of evidence-based music medicine (MM) on pain management outcomes after abdominal and pelvic surgery when combined with usual care.
Design: This quality improvement project implemented MM in a hospital postanesthesia care unit using a pretest-posttest design. The Roy Adaptation Model and Kotter's Change theory guided all project phases.

Distinguishing the brain mechanisms affected by distinct addictive drugs may inform targeted therapies against specific substance use disorders (SUDs). Here, we explore the function of a drug-associated, transcriptionally repressive transcription factor (TF), ZFP189, whose expression in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) facilitates cocaine-induced molecular and behavioral adaptations. To uncover the necessity of ZFP189-mediated transcriptional control in driving cocaine-induced behaviors, we created synthetic ZFP189 TFs of distinct transcriptional function, including ZFP189, which activates the expression of target genes and exerts opposite transcriptional control to the endogenously repressive ZFP189.
