The locusts (Bey-Bienko) and (Zubovski) (Orthoptera Acrididae) and the leaf beetle (Joannis) (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) are economically devastating insect species in the desert steppes of Northern China. Control is mainly and frequently dependent on highly toxic chemicals. To date, there have been no complete and comprehensive reports of insecticide applications to these key pests.

Novel chemistry for vector control is urgently needed to counter insecticide resistance in mosquitoes. Here a new meta-diamide insecticide, broflanilide (TENEBENALTM), was evaluated in East African experimental huts in Moshi, northern Tanzania. Two consecutive experimental hut trials with broflanilide 50WP were conducted; the first evaluating the efficacy of three concentrations, 50 mg/m2, 100 mg/m2, and 200 mg/m2 using a prototype formulation, and the second trial evaluating an improved formulation.

Effects of waterborne exposure to cadmium on biochemical responses in the freshwater gastropod, Bellamya aeruginosa.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

April 2020

Center for Environment and Water Resource, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Central South University, Changsha, 410083, PR China. Electronic address:

The biochemical responses of Bellamya aeruginosa as a dominant and widespread freshwater gastropod throughout China to waterborne cadmium (Cd) were investigated to explore the impacts of exposure concentration and duration in this potential sentinel species. After the 7 days' test of dosage-mortality relationship, gastropods were exposed for either 7 days at the LC (1.7 mg/L), the LC (0.

Objective: To characterize common dosing strategies and to investigate the association between hydrocortisone dosage and in-hospital mortality in infants born extremely premature.

Study Design: We performed a retrospective review of a cohort of infants born ≤30 weeks' gestational age from 2010 to 2016 from the Pediatrix Clinical Data Warehouse who received hydrocortisone in the first 14 postnatal days. Infants were divided by initial hydrocortisone dosage (high: >2 mg/kg/d vs low: ≤2 mg/kg/d).

In the Serengeti ecosystem of East Africa, grazing ungulates prefer areas with elevated grass Na, suggesting that some grasses tolerate both high soil Na and defoliation. We performed a factorial Na-by-defoliation greenhouse study with five abundant Sporobolus congeners to explore whether Serengeti grasses possess traits which: (i) confer tolerance to both Na and defoliation (cross-tolerance); (ii) display a tradeoff; or (iii) act independently in their tolerances. Our expectation was that related grasses would exhibit cross-tolerance when simultaneously subjected to Na and defoliation.
