Recurrent spontaneous abortion (greater than or equal to 3 spontaneous miscarriages) represents an entity defined by negative criteria (absence of anatomical, hormonal, autoimmune and chromosomal abnormalities). The immune hypothesis is corroborated by the successes (greater than or equal to 80 %) of specific (paternal leucocytes) or non-specific (intravenous gammaglobulins) immunotherapeutic trials. Studies on the mechanisms of action of those two methods will afford information on the pathogenesis of this condition.

Background: The overexpression of HMGB1 at the maternal-fetal interface (MFI) is recognized as a significant factor in Unexplained Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion (URSA). This study aimed to investigate autophagy in the decidual tissues of URSA patients and to explore the relationship between HMGB1 and macrophage autophagy at the MFI in URSA.
Methods: Human decidual tissues were collected from 40 patients diagnosed with URSA and from 60 women undergoing active termination of pregnancy.

Introduction: Spontaneous pneumothorax is a life-threatening thoracic condition that could be either primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) in the absence of an underlying lung disease or secondary spontaneous pneumothorax (SSP) in the presence of an underlying lung disease. In the case of recurrent, contralateral spontaneous pneumothorax or persistent air leak with a chest drain, surgery with bullectomy associated with pleurectomy or pleurodesis is the gold standard management.
Aim: To compare two different techniques for bullectomy, either by using staplers or by hand sewing.
