scHNTL: single-cell RNA-seq data clustering augmented by high-order neighbors and triplet loss.

Bioinformatics

January 2025

School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, Southwest Jiaotong University, Sichuan 611756, China.

Motivation: The rapid development of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has significantly advanced biomedical research. Clustering analysis, crucial for scRNA-seq data, faces challenges including data sparsity, high dimensionality, and variable gene expressions. Better low-dimensional embeddings for these complex data should maintain intrinsic information while making similar data close and dissimilar data distant.

Background And Objectives: The analysis of daily memory lapses is an underutilized approach to understanding daily experiences of cognitive functioning. The present study adopts this approach, with the goals of exploring how the quality of family relationships predicts the frequency of daily memory lapses and moderates the link between daily memory lapses and daily affect.

Research Design And Methods: We used longitudinal data from the third wave of Midlife in the United States and the National Study of Daily Experiences to assess our research goals.

Average nucleotide identity (ANI) is a widely used metric to estimate genetic relatedness, especially in microbial species delineation. While ANI calculation has been well optimized for bacteria and closely related viral genomes, accurate estimation of ANI below 80%, particularly in large reference data sets, has been challenging due to a lack of accurate and scalable methods. To bridge this gap, we introduce MANIAC, an efficient computational pipeline optimized for estimating ANI and alignment fraction (AF) in viral genomes with divergence around ANI of 70%.

Introduction: The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is used to assess submaximal exercise capacity in clinical trials. Conducting the 6MWT can be challenging when patients cannot visit the clinic due to physical/travel limitations. This pilot study assessed the feasibility of conducting the 6MWT using wearable sensors for patients with transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy.

Correlates of Susceptibility to Nicotine Pouch Use Among Australian Adolescents and Younger Adults.

Nicotine Tob Res

January 2025

Melbourne Centre for Behaviour Change, Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, University of Melbourne, Parkville, Australia.

Introduction: Nicotine pouches are growing rapidly in popularity. These products have been found to contain high levels of nicotine, raising concerns about the risk of nicotine dependence and addiction. Preventing uptake of nicotine pouches, particularly among adolescents and younger adults, is thus important.
