The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident created large stockpiles of tritium containing cooling water, which is to be gradually released into the Pacific Ocean, gaining attention from surrounding countries, environmental groups, and local residents concerned with the possibility of increasing tritium concentrations in the water and food cycle. Establishing baseline concentration levels and monitoring tritium immission values are important for assuring public safety, providing data for scientific research and risk communication. Tritium concentrations in the environment are very low; therefore, tritium measurements require enrichment in order to estimate the radiation exposure from drinking water intake and provide information on the water cycle.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study involving 50 patients with end-stage renal disease measured inflammatory markers (hs-CRP and IL-6), albumin levels, and body mass index before and three months after undergoing dialysis, with results indicating that hs-CRP levels were notably higher in the HD group compared to CAPD.
  • * The findings suggest that patients undergoing hemodialysis experience a greater inflammatory burden, as indicated by higher hs-CRP

Article Synopsis
  • - The 2q31 deletion is linked to a specific set of features including developmental delays, short stature, distinct facial traits (like microcephaly and ear deformities), and limb defects, identified in 38 patients so far.
  • - An 8-year-old girl with symptoms resembling velocardiofacial syndrome was diagnosed with a 2q31 microdeletion, confirmed through genetic testing that showed a non-continuous deletion between certain cytobands, along with treatment for her speech and swallowing difficulties.
  • - This case is the first recorded instance of a complex deletion in the 2q31 regions, enhancing knowledge about the conditions linked to these genetic changes, and highlights the importance of advanced diagnostic methods to distinguish it

Protein folding, protein dynamics and the topology of self-motions.

Computational Biology Group, School of Computing Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK.

It has long been recognized that segments of the protein main chain are like robotic manipulators and inverse kinematics methods from robotics have been applied to model loops to bridge gaps in protein comparative modelling. The complex internal motion of a redundant manipulator with fixed ends is called a self-motion and its character is determined by the relative position of its ends. Self-motions that are topologically equivalent (homotopic) occupy the same continous region of the configuration space.

Article Synopsis
  • * Among the 29 children, various treatments were applied using MTA: pulp regeneration in 25 teeth, external closure in 3, root canal filling in 4, and apical plug creation in 4, with follow-up durations ranging from 1 to 9 years.
  • * Results indicated that out of 36 treated teeth, only one required extraction after 9 years, while most showed positive healing outcomes, including root growth and stabilization of issues like external inflammatory root resorption, showcasing MTA
