This work presents a droplet applicator module to generate stable droplets with different muzzle energies for the reproducible endoscopic stimulation of the laryngeal adductor reflex (LAR). The LAR is a protective reflex of the human larynx; an abnormal LAR performance may cause aspiration pneumonia. A pathological LAR can be detected by evaluating its onset latency.

Dr. Paul Moore pioneered the use of high-speed cinematography for observation of normal and abnormal vocal fold vibrations during phonation. His analysis of the glottal area waveform, opening and closing speed index, and open quotient from the high-speed films were labor intensive but relevant today.

Occurrences of period-doubling are found in human phonation, in particular for pathological and some singing phonations such as Sardinian A Tenore Bassu vocal performance. The combined vibration of the vocal folds and the ventricular folds has been observed during the production of such low pitch bass-type sound. The present study aims to characterize the physiological correlates of this acoustical production and to provide a better understanding of the physical interaction between ventricular fold vibration and vocal fold self-sustained oscillation.

Background: Intrathoracic wrap migration is the most frequent morphological anatomic reason for failure of laparoscopic antireflux surgery (LARS). This study investigates whether the size of the esophageal hiatus is a factor in reherniation after LARS with mesh hiatoplasty and after primary failed hiatal closure.
Methods: Fifty-four patients who underwent a laparoscopic 270° Toupet fundoplication with simple sutured crura and posterior onlay of Parietex mesh prosthesis between October 2003 and June 2008 were evaluated with respect to the occurrence of postoperative intrathoracic wrap migration/reherniation.

Dysphagia is a rare manifestation in a patient with Crohn's disease. We report on the case of a patient with long-standing Crohn's disease who developed progressive dysphagia over 3 years. Endoscopy showed minimal distal oesophagitis with non-specific histological findings.
