The incidence of neurological residuals following anatomical correction of transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) has not been described so far. Clinical examination, EEG recordings, and computed tomography (CT) scans were carried out in a consecutive series of 38 children with d-TGA surviving anatomic corrective surgery. The patients were classified into one of three groups according to the type of operation: 15 patients after two-stage approach (TSA) (Stage 1: pulmonary artery banding+aortopulmonary shunt; Stage 2: anatomic correction); 12 patients with primary anatomic correction within the first 2 weeks of life (early switch, ES); 11 patients with primary anatomic correction later in infancy (later switch, LS). In 26 patients (68%) we found no abnormalities on neurologic examination, CT scan, or EEG. Four patients suffered from spastic hemiplegia, 3 of these had cortical brain damage visible on CT scan, and 3 had focal epilepsy as well. In 2 otherwise clinical normal patients cortical infarction could be seen on a CT scan. Thus, in 5 cases (13% of 38 patients) cerebral infarcts were diagnosed by CT scan. The cortical vascular infarction was seen in 4 patients after TSA and in 1 after LS. In 6 patients we found other neurological abnormalities. Early anatomic correction in patients with d-TGA reduces the risk of cortical vascular infarction.

Unlabelled: The Bland-White-Garland syndrome, or Anomalous Origin of the Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery (ALCAPA) syndrome, is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly often associated with high mortality, if left untreated. We present a case of a 43-year-old female with undiagnosed ALCAPA who initially underwent mitral valve surgery for severe mitral regurgitation, only to require reoperation due to adult-type ALCAPA. Intraoperatively, the discovery of dilated right coronary artery and its branches and absence of the left coronary ostium prompted further investigation, leading to the diagnosis of adult-type ALCAPA.

This case report discusses an innovative approach to abdominal wall reconstruction in a 19-year-old male patient with PBS and associated conditions, including chronic renal failure and spina bifida. Previously, he underwent distal ureterectomy and vesicoureteral reimplantation at the age of two years to correct urinary tract dilation and bilateral orchiopexy.

Purpose: Functional alignment (FA) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) prioritizes soft tissue balancing and anatomical restoration without systematic correction to neutral alignment. Most studies have focused on varus deformity, with little evidence available about FA in valgus deformity. The hypothesis of the present study was that FA in robotic-assisted TKA for valgus deformity would demonstrate correction of the coronal alignment and yield satisfactory short-term outcomes.

The standardization of preoperative imaging in primary hyperparathyroidism is one of the current challenges of endocrine surgery. A correct localization of the hypersecretory gland by neck ultrasound and 99mTc-sestamibi (MIBI) scintigraphy are not sufficiently sensitive in some cases. In recent years, CT-4D, 18F-Fluorocholine PET/CT, and radio-guided parathyroidectomy have come into common use.

We aimed to develop and evaluate Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) for fetal ultrasound using actionable concepts as feedback to end-users, using a prospective cross-center, multi-level approach. We developed, implemented, and tested a deep-learning model for fetal growth scans using both retrospective and prospective data. We used a modified Progressive Concept Bottleneck Model with pre-established clinical concepts as explanations (feedback on image optimization and presence of anatomical landmarks) as well as segmentations (outlining anatomical landmarks).
