BACKGROUND Recent studies have shown that peribiliary glands may be the potential cell origin of cholangiocarcinoma, and that precancerous lesions such as biliary intraepithelial neoplasms and intraductal papillary neoplasms of the bile duct may arise from these peribiliary glands. However, whether and how these precancerous lesions progress to cholangiocarcinoma is controversial. CASE REPORT Herein, an autopsy case of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, exclusively periductal-infiltrating, is reported.

Ectopic pancreas, also known as heterotopic pancreas, is a rare condition in which the pancreatic tissue is found outside its usual location in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is commonly asymptomatic and benign, and is often discovered incidentally during routine imaging, endoscopy, surgery, or autopsy. However, complications can arise, such as inflammation, bleeding, obstruction, or even malignant transformation, necessitating surgical intervention in some cases.

A 27-year-old woman with jaundice and abdominal pain was admitted to an emergency ward. The diagnostic process showed that gallstones were causing her symptoms. The patient was treated via endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and during the procedure she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) is an established diagnostic tool for noninvasive assessment of the biliary tract in humans. It has also been found to be feasible in companion animals, but no published studies have compared MRC sequences in veterinary medicine. The present study is part of a prospective, observational, analytical investigation on MR cholangiopancreatography performed on the donated bodies of 12 cats and eight dogs.
