Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is one of the most toxic mycotoxins with neurotoxicity. Human exposure to AFB1 via contaminated foodstuffs has been linked to the risk of cognitive impairment, which may contribute to the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The current use of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) in many industrial sectors, particularly in the food industry, has led to growing concerns about the toxicity of these emerging materials to humans. Therefore, NPs assessment in foodstuff, environmental materials and biological fluids is becoming an important topic, and the development of reliable quantification/characterization analytical methods is needed. The presence of NPs in blood and urine can be expected because of the bioavailability/assimilation of these entities by the organism.

Detection of Shiga toxin-producing (STEC) presenting high risk of human infections is challenging. In France, the latest Anses opinion categorized STEC in four groups based on their association with severe forms of clinical infection. STEC strains carrying the gene, particularly those of serogroups O157, O26, O111, O103, O145, O121, O45 and more recently O80 (top 8 serogroups), are usually monitored worldwide, whereas -negative STEC strains that are less clinically significant are not surveyed.

Nearly 400 megatons of virgin plastics are produced annually, with an environmental release rate of 80%, and plastic waste, including microplastics and nanoplastics, is associated with a plethora of problems. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the most widely used polymers, which contrasts with the low amount of literature on the leaching of associated additives and in particular unintended oligomers, a class of non-intentionally added substances (NIAS). This study sheds light on the occurrence of vinyl chloride oligomers (VCOs) in a variety of PVC analytical standards (n = 4), PVC items employed for construction, medical or food contact applications (n = 14), as well as in foodstuffs and environmental matrices (n = 10). Samples were analysed by liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry hyphenated with chloride-enhanced electrospray ionisation.
