Background: Knowledge of which medications may lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) is limited, relying mostly on spontaneous reporting in pharmacovigilance systems. We here conducted an exploratory drug-wide association study (DWAS) to screen for associations between dispensed drugs and AKI risk.

Methods: Using two large Danish and Swedish data linkages, we identified AKI hospitalizations occurring between April 1997 and December 2021 in Denmark and between March 2007 and December 2021 in Sweden.

Background: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is implicated as a necessary factor in the development of multiple sclerosis (MS) and may also be a driver of disease activity. Although it is not clear whether ongoing viral replication is the driver for MS pathology, MS researchers have considered the prospect of using drugs with potential efficacy against EBV in the treatment of MS. We have undertaken scientific and lived experience expert panel reviews to shortlist existing licensed therapies that could be used in later-stage clinical trials in MS.

Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an X-linked recessive neuromuscular disorder caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene. Cardiac involvement is a frequent finding in BMD, and manifestations may vary from asymptomatic cardiac involvement to developing symptoms of heart failure and severe cardiomyopathy. We presented the case of a 32-year-old wheelchair-dependent BMD patient who came to our cardiology clinic with a two-month history of heart palpitations, rest and nocturnal dyspnea, fatigue, and generalized muscular weakness.

The 2024 guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the management of elevated blood pressure and hypertension introduce the new category "elevated blood pressure" (120-139/70-89 mm Hg). All patients with elevated blood pressure are advised to implement lifestyle modifications. The aim is to reduce the cardiovascular risk at an early stage.

Background: Arterial hypertension (AH) remains the leading risk factor associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), cerebrovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. About 70% of patients with AH who are on monotherapy cannot achieve blood pressure (BP) targets, and therefore all quidelines for the management of AH have recently recommended prescribing combination therapy (PCT). In real clinical practice (RCP), there remains significant uncertainty in the effectiveness and rationality of therapy, despite the wide availability of antihypertensive drugs (AHD) and the presence of recommendations for a stepwise approach to prescribing combinations of specific groups of AHD in different clinical situations.
