Recent papers have described glutamine to arginine point mutations of the cloned AMPA/Kainate receptor subunits that alter current-voltage relationship and suppress Ca2+ permeability, thus linking these two characteristics. We describe a glutamine to histidine mutation at the same position, which alters current-voltage relationship but retains Ca2+ permeability, thus dissociating the two properties.

Cellular Signaling of Amino Acid Metabolism in Prostate Cancer.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies affecting men worldwide and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, necessitating a deeper understanding of its underlying biochemical pathways. Similar to other cancer types, prostate cancer is also characterised by aberrantly activated metabolic pathways that support tumour development, such as amino acid metabolism, which is involved in modulating key physiological and pathological cellular processes during the progression of this disease. The metabolism of several amino acids, such as glutamine and methionine, crucial for tumorigenesis, is dysregulated and commonly discussed in prostate cancer.

Unlabelled: Dysfunction in the prefrontal cortex can lead to cognitive inflexibility due to multifactorial causes as included cardiometabolic disorders, stress, inadequate diets, as well as an imbalance of the gut-brain axis microbiota. However, these risk factors have not been evaluated jointly. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of physical stress (MS: Male Stress and FS: Female Stress) and high-fat diet (MD: Male Diet and FD: Female Diet) supplementation on the gut microbiota and cognitive flexibility.

Purslane is a plant with high nutritional content that is mainly produced in the central part of Mexico. The nutritional content of purslane depends on various factors such as climatic and soil conditions, phenology, and fertilization. This article describes the H NMR metabolomics profiling of purslane in relation to fertilization at two harvest stages: C and C (27 and 42 days after emergence).

The current "consensus" order in which amino acids were added to the genetic code is based on potentially biased criteria, such as the absence of sulfur-containing amino acids from the Urey-Miller experiment which lacked sulfur. More broadly, abiotic abundance might not reflect biotic abundance in the organisms in which the genetic code evolved. Here, we instead identify which protein domains date to the last universal common ancestor (LUCA) and then infer the order of recruitment from deviations of their ancestrally reconstructed amino acid frequencies from the still-ancient post-LUCA controls.
