Background: Multiple research teams have documented various abnormalities in erythrocyte properties in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared with neurotypical individuals. Reduced erythrocyte deformability, a crucial factor for microcirculation and oxygen delivery, may affect brain function. Other key factors like nitric oxide (NO) and Na,K-ATPase-regulated cation transport also play roles in both erythrocyte deformability and ASD, suggesting a possible relationship between erythrocyte parameters and autism severity.

Introduction: Reliable biomarkers for the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) are of paramount clinical value. To date, synovial fluid leukocyte count is the standard surrogate parameter indicating PJI. As D-lactate is almost solely produced by bacteria, it represents a promising molecule in the diagnostic workflow of PJI evaluation.

In this work, we demonstrate the fundamental relationships between stability constants and periodic, acid-base, and structural parameters for complexes of some 1,3-diketones. The four analogues of hexafluoroacetylacetone-2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone, 2-furoyltrifluoroacetone, benzoyltrifluoroacetone, and 2-naphthyltrifluoroacetone-have been studied as chelating ligands for 16 rare-earth metals (Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) in aqueous solutions. Systems have been investigated spectrophotometrically using a multiwave nonlinear least-squares regression algorithm for data processing.

Transferrin is a protein involved in iron uptake by cells and has been identified as a potential target for directing drug-loaded nanoparticles for cancer treatment and diagnosis. Most methods for conjugation of transferrin and nanoparticles involve the formation of a thioeter bond between thiolated transferrin and maleimide-containing nanoparticle. For nanoparticle development, it is important to perform a thorough physicochemical characterization, including quantification of the amount of transferrin functionalizing the delivery system.
