Thyroid tissue is sensitive to the effects of endocrine disrupting substances, and this represents a significant health concern. Histopathological analysis of tissue sections of the rat thyroid gland remains the gold standard for the evaluation for agrochemical effects on the thyroid. However, there is a high degree of variability in the appearance of the rat thyroid gland, and toxicologic pathologists often struggle to decide on and consistently apply a threshold for recording low-grade thyroid follicular hypertrophy.

Drug toxicity during the development of candidate pharmaceuticals is the leading cause of discontinuation in preclinical drug discovery and development. Traditionally, the cause of the toxicity is often determined by histological examination, clinical pathology, and the detection of drugs and/or metabolites by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). While these techniques individually provide information on the pathological effects of the drug and the detection of metabolites, they cannot provide specific molecular spatial information without additional experiments.

Glutamine availability may be reduced in chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)-induced by obesity. Herein, the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and lipid metabolism effects of chronic oral glutamine supplementation in its free and dipeptide form were assessed in ob/ob mice. Adult male C57BL/6J ob/ob mice were supplemented with L-alanyl-L-glutamine (DIP) or free L-glutamine (GLN) in the drinking water for 40 days, whilst C57BL/6J Wild-type lean (WT) and control ob/ob mice (CTRL) received fresh water only.

The analysis of chemical xenobiotics in human, food, and environmental samples has become a global priority. Consequently, both public and private laboratories require rapid, cost-effective analytical methods for quality and safety control. Fluopicolide, a fungicide used to combat plant diseases, poses potential toxicological risks to humans and animals.

Polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) are omnipresent in the air and can be inhaled by humans. However, their long-term adverse implications and toxicological mechanisms for human respiratory health are unclear. Therefore, this study aims to provide new insights into the pulmonary toxicity of PS-NPs using mice and organoid models.
