The aim of this study was to develop a long-acting transdermal patch of levamlodipine (LAM) using an ion-pair strategy to reduce the skin irritation induced by topical application of LAM and explore the mechanism underlying the improvement of skin irritation. The formulation was optimized through porcine in vitro transdermal experiments and rabbit in vivo skin irritation tests. The obtained formulation consisted of poly (2-Ethylhexyl acrylate-co-N-Vinyl-2-pyrrolidone-co-N-(2-Hydroxyethyl) acrylamide) (PENH) as the adhesive matrix, 13.

Revisiting triplet state dissolved organic matter (DOM): Advances in probes, photoreactivity, and environmental implications.

Sci Total Environ

December 2024

Department of Environment and Energy, Sejong University, Seoul 05006, South Korea. Electronic address:

Triplet-state dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a critical role in the photodegradation of organic pollutants in aquatic environments. This review offers a comprehensive overview of DOM, focusing on monitoring methods using various probes, formation mechanisms, and photoreactivity. Traditional probes, such as 2,4,6-trimethylphenol (TMP) and sorbic acid, are widely used, while novel probes promise improved accuracy and sensitivity.

College of Chemical Engineering, Integrated Nanocatalysts Institute, Huaqiao University, Xiamen 361021, China. Electronic address:

Developing non-toxic and sustainable materials with versatile and diverse functions has always been a crucial issue in food preservation packaging. Recently, inverse vulcanization has emerged as a precise and eco-friendly solution, attributed to the versatility of resulting polysulfides. In this study, a polysulfide crosslinked with sorbic acid was prepared by inverse vulcanization, and further combined with bio-macromolecular ethyl cellulose to form composite films via a casting method.

Chemical exposure from the Hebei spirit oil spill accident and its long-term effects on mental health.

Regional Environmental Health Center, Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital, Cheonan, South Korea; Department of Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Soonchunhyang University, Cheonan, South Korea.

While evidence indicates that exposure to oil spill incidents can affect mental health, it is unclear whether the mental health effects result from the incident itself or from exposure to associated chemicals. Oil contains chemicals that can impact mental health and these chemicals may have long-term effects due to their persistence in the environment. To address the gap in current knowledge, we conducted cross-sectional and prospective analyses of data from adults who participated in the Health Effects of the Hebei Spirit Oil Spill study.

Bio-based production of cis,cis-muconic acid as platform for a sustainable polymers production.

Bioresour Technol

September 2024

Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, University of Insubria, via J. H. Dunant 3, 21100 Varese, Italy. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers have engineered an E. coli strain with five enzymes to transform vanillin from lignin into high-value cis,cis-muconic acid (ccMA) using green biotechnology.
  • They optimized the production process in a bioreactor, achieving a significant yield of 5.2 g/L of ccMA in 48 hours by pulse-feeding vanillin.
  • The ccMA produced is a key ingredient for creating a fully biodegradable polymer with rubber-like characteristics, emphasizing a sustainable approach to generating bio-based materials from renewable resources.
