Chlorophenols in environment: Recent updates on pretreatment and analysis methods.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

November 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang 110004, China. Electronic address:

Chlorophenols (CPs) are widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, insecticides, pharmaceuticals, synthetic dyes and wood preservatives. However, owing to the improper discharge and disposal, they have become major contaminants that are ubiquitously distributed in water, soil, and sewage sediments, posing a significant threat to ecosystems and human health. Consequently, accurate, sensitive and effective pretreatment and analysis methods for CPs are urgently required and have been actively explored in recent years.

A novel indicator of anthropogenic influence on the fluctuability and stability of phytoplankton community composition.

Sci Total Environ

October 2024

School of Marine Sciences/Guangdong Key Laboratory of Marine Resources and Coastal Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University and Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai), Zhuhai, 519082, China. Electronic address:

Marine community composition is expected to be relatively stable in a natural environment over time but shift under increasing anthropogenic disturbances. In coastal waters, diatoms and dinoflagellates are two dominant phytoplankton functional groups. In this study, we developed an areal phytoplankton community composition index (APCI) that is based on the area of a scatter plot of dinoflagellate abundance (y-axis) vs diatom abundance (x-axis) using a time window of 1 year, 2 years or 3 years data.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, wastewater monitoring has been used to monitor the levels of SARS-CoV-2 RNA entering the sewerage system. In Italy, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità coordinated the SARI project (Sorveglianza Ambientale Reflue in Italia) to detect SARS-CoV-2 and its variants. In this study, the concentration of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants in raw wastewater against COVID-19 cases was evaluated together with the effect of temperature and precipitation on virus spread.
