A comprehensive strategy, including spectroscopic, molecular simulation, proteomics, and bioinformatics techniques, was employed to investigate a novel triazole, 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole, its interactions with high-abundance blood proteins, and identification of low-abundance proteins. The binding constants and thermodynamic parameters of the triazole to two high-abundance blood globular proteins, human serum albumin, and human immunoglobulin G (HIgG), were obtained by spectroscopic techniques and computational chemistry. The two-dimensional gel electrophoresis in combination with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry was employed to isolate and identify differentially expressed low-abundance proteins in human blood serum samples following exposure to the triazole.

Serum HDL and their subfractions are impaired in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).

J Transl Med

January 2025

Dipartimento di Pediatria Generale e d'Urgenza, AORN Santobono-Pausilipon, Naples, Italy.

Background: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a severe post-COVID condition due to a delayed hyperimmune response to SARS-CoV-2. High-density lipoproteins (HDL) are pivotal players in inflammatory and immune modulation through the remodeling of their subfractions.

Methods: This study aimed to evaluate serum levels of cholesterol, HDL, and HDL subfractions (HDL-SUB) to define their role in the pathogenesis of MIS-C and their potential use as biomarkers of this condition.

A longitudinal study on the detection of anti-Leishmania antibodies in a captive European mink (Mustela lutreola) population and their correlation with serum protein electrophoresis.

January 2025

Animal Pathology Department, Veterinary Faculty, University of Zaragoza, Miguel Servet 177, 50013 Zaragoza, Spain; Clinical Immunology Laboratory, Veterinary Faculty, University of Zaragoza, Miguel Servet 177, 50013 Zaragoza, Spain. Electronic address:

Leishmaniosis, caused by Leishmania infantum and transmitted by sand flies, is a significant zoonotic disease. Dogs are primary reservoirs, but other domestic animals, such as cats and ferrets, and wild species, including Eurasian otters and European mink, can be hosts. This study focused on European mink, a critically endangered species, investigating the seroprevalence of L.

Lambda Light Chain Cast Nephropathy Caused by Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma.

Cureus

December 2024

Internal Medicine/Nephrology, Riverside Health System, Yonkers, USA.

We report an interesting case of an elderly male patient with splenic marginal zone lymphoma with a monoclonal cluster of differentiation (CD)5+ B cells. The patient developed signs of renal injury and was evaluated via serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation electrophoresis, which revealed monoclonal gammopathy with elevated free lambda light chain. However, a bone biopsy ruled out a diagnosis of multiple myeloma.

Objectives: To describe the clinical presentation and clinicopathological findings of dogs with nodular splenic lesions composed of heterogeneous cell components associated with systemic inflammation and to provide information on the outcome after surgical resection.

Materials And Methods: Medical records were searched for dogs with histologically and immunohistochemically characterised nodular splenic lesions with mixed stromal, histiocytic and lymphoid cells and the presence of systemic inflammatory markers at the time of diagnosis.

Results: Four dogs were included, of which three had an undifferentiated splenic stromal sarcoma and one had a splenic leiomyosarcoma.
