The study aimed to find out the alterations in serum amino acid (AA) profiles and to detect their relationship with carcinoma formation. Targeted metabolomics based on ultraperformance liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry to quantitatively analyze serum AA levels in 136 hepatitis B (CHB) patients and 93 hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. It was shown that decreased serum levels of leucine, lysine, threonine, tryptophan, valine, serotonin, and taurine were observed in more HCC patients than CHB patients, but the serum phenylalanine level was increased.

Desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) origami architectures are a promising tool for ultimate lithography because of their ability to generate nanostructures with a minimum feature size down to 2 nm. In this paper, we developed a method for silicon (Si) nanopatterning to face up current limitations for high-resolution patterning with standard microelectronic processes. For the first time, a 2 nm-thick 2D DNA origami mask, with specific design composed of three different square holes (with a size of 10 and 20 nm), is used for positive pattern transfer into a Si substrate using a 15 nm-thick silicon dioxide (SiO) layer as an intermediate hard mask.

Microplastic pollution attracted extensive attention because of its global presence and adverse effects on ecosystem. However, it is insufficient to clear the effects of nanoplastics on organisms at the molecular level. Herein, a nanopolystyrene (50 nm) was used to examine molecular responses of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and desoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) using spectroscopy (UV-vis, circular dichroism spectra, and fluorescence measurements) and single cell gel electrophoresis methods.

Extensive molecular-dynamics (MD) simulations have been used to investigate DNA-dye and DNA-photosensitizer conjugates, which act as reactants in templated reactions leading to the generation of fluorescent products in the presence of specific desoxyribonucleic acid sequences (targets). Such reactions are potentially suitable for detecting target nucleic acids in live cells by fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry. The simulations show how the attached dyes/photosensitizers influence DNA structure and reveal the relative orientations of the chromophores with respect to each other.

Motor learning requires protein synthesis within the primary motor cortex (M1). Here, we show that the immediate early gene Arc/Arg3.1 is specifically induced in M1 by learning a motor skill.
