Objective: Traumatic hemorrhagic cerebral contusions are a well-established cause of morbidity and mortality in neurosurgery. This study aimed to determine prognostic factors for long-term functional outcomes and longitudinal contusion volume changes in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients.

Methods: Data from 285 patients with traumatic cerebral contusions were retrospectively reviewed to identify variables predictive of initial contusion volume, contusion expansion on short-term follow-up imaging, and functional outcomes according to the modified Rankin Scale (mRS).

Background: MicroRNAs have been linked to dementia. However, understanding their relation to cognition in the general population is required to determine their potential use for the detection and prevention of age-associated cognitive decline and preclinical dementia. Therefore, we examined the association of circulating microRNAs with cognitive performance in a population-based cohort and the possible underlying mechanisms.

Inter- and intra-hemispheric lateralization alterations in auditory verbal hallucinations of Schizophrenia: insights from resting-state functional connectivity.

Eur Arch Psychiatry Clin Neurosci

January 2025

Department of Psychiatry, National Clinical Research Center for Mental Disorders, and National Center for Mental Disorders, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Changsha, 310016, Hunan, China.

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) in schizophrenia are hypothesized to involve alterations in hemispheric lateralization, but the specific neural mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigated functional intra- and inter-hemispheric connectivity to identify lateralization patterns unique to AVHs. Resting-state fMRI data were collected from 60 schizophrenia patients with persistent AVHs (p-AVH group), 39 patients without AVHs (n-AVH group), and 59 healthy controls (HC group).

Background: APP duplications are a rare form of familial Alzheimer's disease (AD). Research has shown variability in clinical presentation with full duplications. There is limited information on those with partial duplications, especially in underrepresented minorities.

Background: Optimal cerebral blood flow is crucial to maintaining cognitive function. Cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) is a dynamic measure of cerebrovascular function which represents the ability of cerebral blood vessels to regulate blood flow in response to vasoactive stimuli. Prior studies have demonstrated an association between impaired CVR and cognitive function in cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative conditions, including cerebral amyloid angiopathy and Alzheimer disease.
