Upcycling organic and inorganic waste into value-added metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) presents a sustainable strategy for mitigating waste pollution and promoting economic viability. However, rapid synthesis of MOF materials derived from actual industrial waste under mild conditions remains challenging. Herein, Fe-MOF MIL-88B(Fe) was successfully fabricated within 1 h at room temperature using galvanizing pickling waste liquid and terephthalic acid derived from waste poly(ethylene terephthalate).

Tigecycline (Tgc), a third-generation tetracycline is found as the last line of defense against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Recent increased rate of resistance to tgc, a human-restricted agent among animal bacteria poses a significant global health challenge. Overuse of first generation tetracyclines (Tet) and phenicols in animals have been suggested to be associated with Tgc resistance development.

Antibacterial screening of endophytic fungi from Salacia intermedia identified Diaporthe longicolla as a potent strain exhibiting good activity against multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with an MIC of 39.1 µg/mL. Scale-up fermentation and chromatographic purification of this strain yielded three known compounds, which were cytochalasin J (1), cytochalasin H (2), and dicerandrol C (3), as identified by liquid chromatography - high mass resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Over the last decades, the release and occurrence of organic pollutants in aquatic systems have become a major global concern due to their bioaccumulation, toxicity, and adverse effects on the ecosystem. Tetracycline (TC), a widely used antibiotic, is often found at high concentrations in the aqueous environment and tends to bind with the natural colloids. Post-COVID-19 pandemic, the release of surfactants in the environment has increased due to the excessive use of washing and cleaning products.

Background: Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7, associated with diarrhea, poses a global health risk. In Ethiopia, where diarrhea is common, there is limited knowledge about these resistant strains and a lack of data on Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase production.
