Background: Within the last decade, system and policy-level changes have driven substantial shifts in heart failure (HF) care from hospital to home, requiring greater support from informal care partners. What has not been examined is the state of the care partner science by person and system-level domains using qualitative studies to understand impact across multiple person and system levels.

Objectives: (1) Identify by person and system levels and domain what is known about informal care partners and (2) Identify gaps in the caregiving science and suggest ways to move forward.

Scleral Lens Use in the Management of Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid.

Eye Contact Lens

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology (B.S., A.S., S.B., J.K.), Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA; and Emory University School of Medicine (S.C.), Atlanta, GA.

Purpose: Symptom management in Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid (OCP) is challenging because of the progressive factors of dry eye, scarring, trichiasis, and vision impairment. We set out to evaluate the benefits and therapeutic effects of scleral contact lenses in the management of OCP.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed over a database of 20 patients (36 eyes) fitted with scleral lenses (SL) at the Department of Ophthalmology, Emory University from May 2018 to April 2021.

Importance: Uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common indication for outpatient antimicrobial therapy. National guidelines for the management of uncomplicated UTI were published in 2011, but the extent to which they align with current practices, patient diversity, and pathogen biology, all of which have evolved greatly in the time since their publication, is not fully known.

Objective: To reevaluate the effectiveness and adverse event profile for first-line antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, and oral β-lactams for treating uncomplicated UTI in contemporary clinical practice.

Atomically Dispersed Metal Atoms: Minimizing Interfacial Charge Transport Barrier for Efficient Carbon-Based Perovskite Solar Cells.

Nanomicro Lett

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, Frontier Science Center for Smart Materials, School of Chemistry, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, 116024, People's Republic of China.

Carbon-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) exhibit notable stability and durability. However, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) is significantly hindered by energy level mismatches, which result in interfacial charge transport barriers at the electrode-related interfaces. Herein, we report a back electrode that utilizes atomically dispersed metallic cobalt (Co) in carbon nanosheets (Co/CN) to adjust the interfacial energy levels.

The lumen centerline of the coronary artery allows vessel reconstruction used to detect stenoses and plaques. Discrete-action-based centerline extraction methods suffer from artifacts and plaques. This study aimed to develop a continuous-action-based method which performs more effectively in cases involving artifacts or plaques.
