Microwave-assisted evaporation technology is widely used today, but its molecular mechanism is not fully understood. To investigate the molecular mechanism of the influence of microwave electric field direction on water evaporation, this paper designed experiments to measure the microwave energy required to evaporate each gram of water with electric field directions parallel and perpendicular to the water surface. The temperature rise curve of the water is controlled to be consistent in both cases, and the temperature distribution of the water is made uniform by stirring.

DFT study of the binary intermetallic compound NdMn in different polytypic phases.

J Mol Model

January 2025

Department of Physics, University of Malakand, Chakdara, Dir (Lower), 18800, KP, Pakistan.

Context: The structural stability, ground state magnetic order, electronic, elastic and thermoelectric properties of NdMn in the C15, C14 and C36 polytypic phases is investigated. The magnetic phase optimization and magnetic susceptibility reveal that NdMn is antiferromagnetic (AFM) in C36 phase; and paramagnetic (PM) in C14 and C15 phases respectively. The band profiles and electrical resistivity show the metallic nature in all these polytypic phases and reveal that the C36 phase possesses smaller resistivity.

Germanium nanocrystal non-volatile memory devices: fabrication, charge storage mechanism and characterization.

Nanoscale

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore, 4 Engineering Drive 3, Singapore 117583.

The widespread proliferation and increasing use of portable electronic devices and wearables, and the recent developments in artificial intelligence and internet-of-things, have fuelled the need for high-density and low-voltage non-volatile memory devices. Nanocrystal memory, an emergent non-volatile memory (NVM) device that makes use of the Coulomb blockade effect, can potentially result in the scaling of the tunnel dielectric layer to a very small thickness. Since the nanocrystals are electrically isolated, potential charge leakage paths localized defects in the thin tunnel dielectric can be substantially reduced, unlike that in a continuous polysilicon floating gate structure.

Unlabelled: Electric fields used in clinical trials with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) are small, with magnitudes that have yet to demonstrate measurable effects in preclinical animal models. We hypothesized that weak stimulation will nevertheless produce sizable effects, provided that it is applied concurrently with behavioral training, and repeated over multiple sessions. We tested this here in a rodent model of dexterous motor-skill learning.
