Developing scaffolds supporting functional cell attachment and tissue growth is critical in basic cell research, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine approaches. Though poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and its derivatives are attractive for hydrogels and scaffold fabrication, they often require bioactive modifications due to their bioinert nature. In this work, biomimetic synthesized conductive polypyrrole-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) copolymer doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PPy-PEDOT:PSS) was used as a biocompatible coating for poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) hydrogel to support neuronal and muscle cells' attachment, activity, and differentiation.

The technology of native chemical ligation and postligation desulfurization has greatly expanded the scope of modern chemical protein synthesis. Here, we report that ultrasonic energy can trigger robust and clean protein desulfurization, and we developed an ultrasound-induced desulfurization (USID) strategy that is simple to use and generally applicable to peptides and proteins. The USID strategy involves a simple ultrasonic cleaning bath and an easy-to-use and easy-to-remove sonosensitizer, titanium dioxide.

A soybean protein isolate (SPI)-based hydrogel with controllable properties was prepared under mild conditions using a simple mixing method with dialdehyde sodium alginate (DSA) as an eco-friendly macromolecular crosslinker. DSA was successfully synthesized via periodate oxidation. Analysis of the structure of the SPI/DSA hydrogel indicated that a 3D network was formed between SPI and DSA through dynamic imine and hydrogen bonds.

The development of devices capable of storing energy harnessed from photons is on the rise, owing to the increasing global energy demand for smart systems. The majority of reports in this field cover the use of integrated type devices, which houses a separate photovoltaic module and supercapacitor or battery. Herein, we are reporting a photocapacitor with a simple two-electrode design, capable of operating without a conventional electrolyte or metal ions.

Thiol-Enhanced Interfacial and Internal Deposition of Metal-Polyphenol Networks for Permanent Hair Dyeing.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

Metal polyphenolic networks (MPNs) are becoming more and more attractive for nontoxic hair dyeing, but their coloring effect is not satisfactory because of the limited interfacial deposition and the absence of internal deposition. Moreover, there is a lack of understanding of the driving factors of the interfacial deposition of MPNs on hair. Herein, we develop a simple yet efficient strategy that transforms disulfide bonds of the hair into thiol groups by thioglycolic acid (TGA) to highly enhance the coloring effect of MPNs at a low temperature.
