Introduction Dry eye and hyposalivation, often linked to Sjögren's syndrome (SS), are prevalent among adults. However, systemic diseases and their associated medications also play a role, as drug interactions can intensify the effects of certain medications. Objective To assess whether polypharmacy is associated with the co-occurrence of aqueous-deficient dry eye (ADDE) and hyposalivation in adults aged 50 years and older without SS.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is an emerging antitumor strategy utilizing iron-initiated Fenton reaction to destroy tumor cells by converting endogenous HO into highly toxic hydroxyl radical (OH). However, the intratumoral overexpressed glutathione (GSH) and deficient acid greatly reduce CDT efficacy because of OH scavenging and decreased OH production efficiency. Even worse, the various physiological barriers, especially in glioma, further put the brakes on the targeted delivery of Fenton agents.

Neddylation is a process of attaching neuronal precursor cell-expressed developmentally downregulated protein 8 (NEDD8) to substrates for the protein function modulation via enzymatic cascades involving NEDD8-activating enzyme (E1), NEDD8-conjugating enzyme (E2), and NEDD8 ligase (E3). Defective in cullin neddylation 1 (DCN1) serves as a co-E3 ligase, that can simultaneously bind E2 UBE2M and cullin proteins to stabilize the catalytic center of the Cullin-Ring E3 ligase (CRL) complex, thereby promoting cullin neddylation. Neddylation is reported to be activated in diverse human diseases, and inhibition of protein neddylation has been regarded as a promising anticancer therapy.

Postmenopausal women are at a higher risk of developing dyslipidemia and osteoporosis due to estrogen deficiency, necessitating regular vitamin D supplementation and the use of cholesterol inhibitors, respectively, to prevent these conditions. Despite current treatments, alternatives are needed to address both conditions simultaneously. Ergosterol, a precursor of vitamin D, is a fungal sterol converted to brassicasterol by 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase, a cholesterol biosynthesis enzyme that converts 7-dehydrocholesterol (a precursor of vitamin D) into cholesterol.
