Sarcopenia and cancer cachexia are two life-threatening conditions often misdiagnosed. The skeletal muscle is one of the organs most adversely affected by these conditions, culminating in poor quality of life and premature mortality. In addition, it has been suggested that chemotherapeutic agents exacerbate cancer cachexia, as is the case of doxorubicin.

Background: Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common permanent neuromotor disorder diagnosed in childhood. Although most cases have unknown etiology, emerging evidence suggests environmental risk factors of CP.
Objectives: We investigated whether ambient toxic air contaminants (TACs) in the maternal residential area during pregnancy, specifically volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and metals, were associated with offspring CP risk in California.

Illegal solid waste dumping is a significant factor contributing to environmental damage. In this study, 16S rRNA gene sequencing technology was used for the identification and assessment of environmental damage in an illegal dumping area in China, with the aim of confirming environmental damage through analyzing changes in the soil bacterial communities across slag, sewage sludge, and non-contaminated areas. The results indicate that the diversity of soil bacteria decreases with an increase in the degree of pollution.

Background: Trastuzumab deruxtecan (TDXd) is an antibody-drug conjugate that has demonstrated impressive activity in randomized controlled clinical trials in the context of patients with HER2-amplified and HER2-low metastatic breast cancer. We aimed to review the activity and adverse event profile of TDXd in heavily pretreated breast cancer patients in real practice.
Methods: We describe a single-center retrospective case series of metastatic breast cancer patients who were treated with TDXd.

Background: There is no consensus regarding the optimal regimen for metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (dmNPC). Locoregional intensity modulated radiotherapy (LRRT) following palliative chemotherapy (PCT) has been shown to prolong the overall survival (OS) and improve the progression-free survival (PFS) of patients with dmNPC, compared with PCT alone. However, patients with a high tumor burden do not benefit from additional LRRT, which inevitably results in toxicity.
