Nicosulfuron is a herbicide used in agricultural production. Its prolonged application causes significant ecological risks to soil and water environment. In this study, the molecular mechanisms underlying degradation of nicosulfuron and its derivative by Klebsiella jilinsis 2N3 was determined.

(L)-2,4-dihydroxybutyrate (DHB) is a versatile compound that can serve as a precursor for the synthesis of the methionine analog 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)butyrate and new advanced polymers. We previously implemented in an artificial biosynthetic pathway for the aerobic production of DHB from glucose, which relies on the deamination of (L)-homoserine followed by the reduction of 2-oxo-4-hydroxybutyrate (OHB) and yields DHB by an enzyme-bearing NADH-dependent OHB reductase activity. Under aerobic conditions, using NADPH as a cofactor is more favorable for reduction processes.

Minocycline has been widely used in clinical treatment and its residues were considered to have environmental safety risks due to complex chemical structure. Therefore, it is necessary to find an efficient and environmentally friendly method to remove minocycline from the environment. This study screened and isolated a minocycline degrading strain DM13 from the activated sludge for municipal sewage pipeline, and optimized the biodegradation of minocycline by DM13 under various environmental conditions.

Membrane bioreactor (MBR) is a water treatment process combining membrane technologies with activated sludge, which is beneficial to the removal of antibiotics. However, with the extension of the operation cycle, its efficiency in treating antibiotic wastewater decreases and the membrane fouling intensifies. As the presence of Fe could improve pollutants removal, microbial activity and sludge properties, it was anticipated that the addition of Fe in MBR might promote the removal of antibiotics and reduce membrane fouling.

The base excision repair pathway protects DNA from base damage via oxidation, deamination, alkylation and methylation. DNA glycosylases are key enzymes that recognize damaged bases in a lesion-specific manner and initiate the base excision repair process. Among these, the endonuclease VIII-like 1-3 (NEIL1-3) family, which is found in mammalian genomes, is a homolog of bacterial DNA glycosylases known as Fpg/Nei.
