Introduction Post-spinal hypotension (PSH) frequently occurs in women undergoing cesarean section. In recent studies, Ultrasound-guided measurements of the internal jugular vein (IJV) have been reported to predict fluid responsiveness. We planned to evaluate the correlation between the internal jugular vein collapsibility index (IJVCI) and PSH in cesarean section patients.

Purpose: Severe hypotension caused by anesthetic administration for anesthesia induction, which might cause ischemic stroke, myocardial injury, acute kidney injury and postoperative mortality, should be prevented. Anesthesiologists are familiar with ultrasound examination of the internal jugular vein (IJV). This study aimed to clarify whether ultrasonographic IJV evaluation just before induction could predict the occurrence of such hypotension.

Objective: Diabetics with cardiovascular autonomous neuropathy (CAN) can show severe hypotension during the course of anaesthesia. To improve the safety of anaesthesia, pre-operative evaluation of this concomitant disorder is recommended. The conventional test battery described by Ewing and Clarke to diagnose CAN is relatively time-consuming and complex.

Local metabolic conditions adapt blood supply to metabolic requirement by a direct effect on vascular smooth muscles and indirectly by modulating sympathetic vasoconstrictor effectiveness. During exercise, sympathetic nervous activity could in turn interfere on local metabolic control of vascular tone and restrain blood flow to active muscles. In order to investigate that interaction non-invasively, we measured postischaemic reactive hyperaemia (RH) in the forelimb of eight healthy young men (22.
