Effects of basic type of intermittent exotropia on myopic shift in children: a 12-month observational study.

Front Pediatr

January 2025

Beijing Tongren Eye Center, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, Beijing, China.

Background: To investigate the effect of basic intermittent exotropia (IXT) on myopic shift in children during 12-month follow-up.

Methods: 165 children aged 4-15 years were recruited prospectively in this study and divided into 3 groups: Group A, consisted of 64 patients with basic IXT without surgery; Group B, consisted of 51 patients 1-month after IXT-corrected surgery; and Group C, consisted of 50 patients without any form of strabismus. All patients underwent assessments of spherical equivalent (SE), axial length (AL), exodeviation, and binocular function relating to accommodation and convergence.

ReIU: an efficient preliminary framework for Alzheimer patients based on multi-model data.

Front Public Health

January 2025

Engineering Research Center of Photoelectric Detection and Perception Technology, Yunnan Normal University, Kunming, China.

The rising incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses significant challenges to traditional diagnostic methods, which primarily rely on neuropsychological assessments and brain MRIs. The advent of deep learning in medical diagnosis opens new possibilities for early AD detection. In this study, we introduce retinal vessel segmentation methods based on U-Net ad iterative registration Learning (ReIU), which extract retinal vessel maps from OCT angiography (OCT-A) facilities.

Prevention Research Collaboration, Sydney School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, 2006, Australia.

Background: Mobile technology offers great potential for physical activity promotion, especially by facilitating online communication, however, the impact of group communication norms on intervention effectiveness remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effect on daily steps of a team-based social norms-related intervention using a mobile application.

Methods: The 13-week quasi-experimental study was conducted in Shanghai, China, from September to November 2019, involving 2,985 employees from 32 worksites.

COph100: A comprehensive fundus image registration dataset from infants constituting the "RIDIRP" database.

Sci Data

January 2025

Research Institute of Trustworthy Autonomous Systems and Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, China.

Retinal image registration is vital for diagnostic therapeutic applications within the field of ophthalmology. Existing public datasets, focusing on adult retinal pathologies with high-quality images, have limited number of image pairs and neglect clinical challenges. To address this gap, we introduce COph100, a novel and challenging dataset known as the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Retinal Image Registration dataset for infants with a wide range of image quality issues constituting the public "RIDIRP" database.

A novel Schirmer Strip-Based Tear Matrix Metalloproteinase Measurement in Dry Eye Evaluation.

Ocul Surf

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Key Laboratory of Ocular Fundus Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Electronic address:

Unlabelled: Dry eye disease is a multifactorial disorder of the ocular surface with increasing global prevalence, yet no universally accepted "gold standard" exists for its diagnosis or severity assessment. Tear matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) is widely recognized as a valuable biomarker for dry eye, yet there remains a critical need for a simple, accurate, and broadly applicable method for its quantification. This study aims to develop and evaluate a Schirmer strip-based Eu-time resolved fluorescence immunochromatography (Eu-TRFICO) method for the quantitative detection of MMP-9 in tears.
