Distal radius fracture nonunion can result in significant deformity, loss of function, and chronic pain. Presented here is a case of distal radius nonunion that was surgically reconstructed with a pedicled distal ulna bone graft based on the periosteal branches of the posterior interosseus artery (PIA). This technique has limited prior utilization for adult distal radius nonunion treatment but offers an effective option for surgical reconstruction of distal radius nonunion with preservation of the radiocarpal joint, utilizing a less invasive surgery that also reduces hospitalization stay.

Introduction: Congenital lumbar kyphosis is present in about 15% of patients with myelomeningocele. Worsening of deformity with complications such as chronic skin ulcers and bone exposure is common. In patients under 8 years of age, treatment becomes even more challenging: in addition to resecting the apex of the kyphotic deformity, we should ideally stabilize the spine with fixation methods that do not interrupt the growth of the rib cage, associated with the challenging pelvic fixation in this population.

Introduction: The reverse sural flap (RSF) is a random-type, pedicled flap based on sural artery perforators indicated for traumatic lower-extremity wounds. The RSF has demonstrated comparable results to free flap placement in the adult population for reconstruction of distal third defects, but few reports describe its application and outcomes in the pediatric population.

Methods: We investigated RSF application in pediatric patients (<18 years of age) through systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the incidence of delayed-onset neurological deficits (DONDs), DOND-related reoperation rates following adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery, and efficacy of transverse process hooks (TPHs) at the uppermost instrumented vertebra (UIV) compared to pedicle screws (PSs).

Methods: We included 90 consecutive patients who underwent instrumented fusion from the sacrum to the distal thoracic spine for ASD, with a minimum follow-up of 24 months. Clinical and radiological outcomes were compared between 33 patients in the TPH group and 57 patients in the PS group, using the Scoliosis Research Society-22 Outcomes questionnaire (SRS-22), Medical Outcomes Study Questionnaire Short-Form 36 (SF-36), and various spinal sagittal parameters.

Laterally Based Island Pedicle Flap with Cheek Advancement for Defects of the Nasal Ala.

J Clin Aesthet Dermatol

December 2024

Mr. Dahabreh and Drs. Hazan and Khorasani are with the Department of Dermatology, Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, New York.

V-to-Y advancement flap is a successful repair technique that preserves vascular and tissue integrity adopted after Mohs micrographic surgery to repair cutaneous defects on the head and neck. However, defects at the lateral distal nasal ala requires large extension beyond cosmetic margins that increase risk of skin webbing, an undesired result on a cosmetically sensitive location to the patient. In this article, we present a novel approach to modifying the procedure employing the V-to-Y advancement flap by truncated the trailing end of the island pedicle to allow for successful healing and better patient satisfaction.
