Induction of neuroleptanalgesia in 6 calves by i/v administration of a combination of meperidine (/ 12 mg/kg body weight) and promazine (/ 3 mg/kg body weight) elicited various haemodynamic responses. The MAP and CVP exhibited significant (p less than 0.01) overall variations with fluctuating fall and rise at different observation periods.

The influence of two intravenous (IV) sedative regimens on intra-ocular pressure (IOP) was investigated in conjunction with retrobulbar local analgesia. Forty patients of either sex, and similar age with body weight within 40-90 kg were allocated equally and randomly to two groups: Group A (alfentanil/promazine) and group M (meperidine/promazine). Measurement of IOP, systolic pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, PaCO2, PaO2 and O2 saturation were made before operation, after premedication, after IV sedation and post-operatively.

Sixty-two fetal heart rate/uterine contraction recordings were examined prior to and following the administration of analgesia. Two groups, identified according to the receipt or absence of scopolamine, were evaluated concerning modification of baseline variability, beat-to-beat variability and fetal heart rate deceleration patterns. Scopolamine was found to be capable of eliciting fetal tachycardia, decreased beat-to-beat and baseline variability and decreased fetal heart rate decelerations.
