The levels of Cr (2.49 +/- 0.89 ppm), Mn (5.08 +/- 1.60 ppm), Ni (1.81 +/- 0.95 ppm) and Pb (4.43 +/- 3.12 ppm) were measured in dessicated liver from 44 cases of sudden traumatic death considered as representative of the general population in our area, after ruling out the presence of any underlying disease. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry and electrothermal atomization was carried out after hot, acid digestion, of the dessicated samples. After cancelling the influence of age and cause of death, a significant, positive correlation between Cr/Mn (P = 0.0009; R = 0.493) and Cr/Ni (P = 0.0245; R = 0.347) levels was found.

Melatonin increases Pb tolerance in P. ovata seedlings via the regulation of growth and stress-related phytohormones, ROS scavenging and genes responsible for melatonin synthesis, metal chelation, and stress defense. Lead (Pb) is a highly toxic heavy metal that accumulates in plants through soil and air contamination and impairs its plant growth and development.

The accumulation pattern of some inorganic pollutants in quarry sites around Ogun State was modeled using a Fuzzy comprehensive assessment (FCA). Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and naturally occurring radionuclides materials (NORMs) were assessed from soil samples collected from ten quarry sites in three districts (Odeda, Ajebo, and Ijebu Ode) in Ogun State. Three (3) NORMs ( K, U, Th) were assessed using gamma spectrometer with a NaI detector while ten (10) PTEs (As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) were determined by digestion method using Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrophotometer.

High salinity in wastewater often hampers the performance of traditional adsorbents by disrupting electrostatic interactions and ion exchange processes, limiting their efficiency. This study addresses these challenges by investigating the salt-promoted adsorption of Cu ions onto amino-functionalized chloromethylated polystyrene (EDA@CMPS) millispheres. The adsorbent was synthesized by grafting ethylenediamine (EDA) onto CMPS, which significantly improved Cu adsorption, achieving nearly three times the capacity in saline solutions (1.

Aim: To study the peculiarities of the ratio of the level of leptin and a number of toxic and essential chemical trace elements in biological environments in adolescent boys aged 13-14 years with obesity and delayed sexual development.
Materials And Methods: Three groups of adolescents aged 13-14 years were studied and formed: the main ones - with constitutional exogenous obesity of 1-2 degrees (1-20 boys without secondary signs of puberty; 2 - 24 boys with 2-4 stages of puberty according to Tanner) and comparisons (3 - 15 boys with normal body weight and without deviations in puberty).
Background: Several modifiable risk factors for dementia and related neurodegenerative diseases have been identified including education level, socio-economic status, and environmental exposures - however, how these population-level risks relate to individual risk remains elusive. To address this, we assess over 450 potential risk factors in one deeply clinically and demographically phenotyped cohort using random forest classifiers to determine predictive markers of poor cognitive function. This study aims to understand early risk factors for dementia by identifying predictors of poor cognitive performance amongst a comprehensive battery of imaging, blood, atmospheric pollutant and socio-economic measures.
