Different assisted recovery techniques have been developed to enhance the safety and quality of equine recoveries. This case series evaluates the recovery of horses using an air-inflated pillow (Equi-lift). With owner consent, the following data were collected from 19 horses undergoing open castration and 21 horses where a difficult recovery was anticipated: age, bodyweight, procedure, anaesthetic protocol, time required for proper positioning in the Equi-lift, time to extubation, time to standing, number of attempts to stand, number of stimuli, behaviour during recumbency/first attempts, and overall impression.

This observational study aimed to compare the glottic view between video and direct laryngoscopy for tracheal intubation in the surgical position for thyroid surgery with intraoperative neuromonitoring. Patients scheduled for elective thyroid surgery with intraoperative neuromonitoring were enrolled. After the induction of anesthesia, patients were positioned in the thyroid surgical posture with a standard inclined pillow under their head and back.

BACKGROUND Emergence cough during endotracheal extubation can lead to complications. This cough is triggered by the deviation of the endotracheal tube from the airway anatomy, causing pressure on the airway mucosal wall. Head elevation has the potential to align the airway passage with the tube's configuration.

In this technical development report, we present the strategic placement of fiducial markers within the prostate under the guidance of computed tomography (CT) and electromagnetic navigation (EMN) for the delivery of ultra-hypofractionated cyberknife (CK) therapy in a patient with localized prostate cancer (PCa) who had previously undergone chemo-radiotherapy for rectal cancer and subsequent abdominoperineal resection due to local recurrence. The patient was positioned in a prone position with a pillow under the pelvis to facilitate access, and an electromagnetic fiducial marker was placed on the patient's skin to establish a stable position. CT scans were performed to plan the procedure, mark virtual points, and simulate the needle trajectory using the navigation system.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it a large number of challenges for healthcare professionals including intubation safety in out-of-theatre environments. An important aspect of this topic is the optimisation of a patient's head and neck position prior to laryngoscopy which can be challenging when a pillow cannot be located. As a result, the authors compared how well the sniffing position (35 neck flexion and 15 head extension) could be reached using pillows or other novel head supports.
