The aim of the present study was to obtain new metal complexes of citrus pectin with cobalt ions based on potassium polygalacturonate and to prepare a new pharmacological composition (PC) PGKCo: PGNaCo (1:1) with antitumor activity based on potassium cobalt polygalacturonate (PGKCo) and sodium cobalt polygalacturonate (PGNaCo). The study of the effect of PGKCo, PGNaCo and PC on the cell viability of tumor cell lines of different genesis in vitro showed that the obtained compounds are soluble in water and exhibit selective cytotoxic activity against the tumor cell lines of human lung carcinoma A549, breast adenocarcinoma MCF-7 and cervical carcinoma M-HeLa, with no significant toxic effect on normal human cells. The possible mechanism of action of the investigated PC on M-HeLa cancer cells was investigated.

A high-sensitivity hot-wire anemometer is proposed for use with a cobalt-doped fiber (CDF) based long-period grating (LPG) heated optically by a 1480 nm laser. The CDF-LPG absorbs laser power and generates heat inherently, thereby eliminating the need for both metal coating and mode coupling devices that are usually required in optical fiber grating anemometers. The dip wavelength of the CDF-LPG shifts with airflow velocity due to the cooling effect of the airflow.

The upsurging of cost-effective electrocatalysts through the operando electro-oxidation approaches holds great promise for the scalable production of green energy in the pursuit of energy sustainability. This work introduces an operando electro-oxidation reconstitution strategy in producing a smart electrocatalyst, cobalt "oxyhydroxide" derived from a newly designed 2D cobalt(II) metal-organic framework (-) directly grown on nickel foam (NF), . The electrocatalyst, , exhibits an outstanding overpotential of 76 mV for the hydrogen evolution reaction and 336 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction to achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm with remarkable Faradaic efficiencies of 97.

Fabrication of Hypoxia-Mimicking Supramolecular Hydrogels for Cartilage Repair.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

January 2025

Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Laboratory (RMS), Department of Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Kandi 502 284, Telangana, India.

Despite advancements in chronic arthritis treatment, there remains a significant demand for advanced nanotechnologies capable of efficiently delivering a wide range of therapeutic agents to provide symptomatic relief and facilitate the healing of inflamed cartilage tissue. Considering the significant impact of hypoxia on the development and maintenance of chondral tissue, replicating its effects on stem cells could be a potential approach for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). Cobalt is a prominent hypoxia-inducing agent, owing to its ability to activate the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway regardless of cellular oxygen levels.
