Objectives/hypothesis: Contrast agent (CA) aspiration is an established complication of upper gastrointestinal and videofluoroscopic swallow studies. The underlying molecular biological mechanisms of acute response to CA aspiration in the respiratory organs remain unclear. The aims of this study were to elucidate the histological and biological influences of three kinds of CAs on the lung and to clarify the differences in acute responses.

Percutaneous drilling for the treatment of secondary osteonecrosis of the knee.

J Bone Joint Surg Br

Centre for Joint Preservation and Reconstruction, Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopaedics, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, 2401 West Belvedere Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215, USA.

Osteonecrosis of the knee comprises two separate disorders, primary spontaneous osteonecrosis which is often a self-limiting condition and secondary osteonecrosis which is associated with risk factors and a poor prognosis. In a series of 61 knees (38 patients) we analysed secondary osteonecrosis of the knee treated by a new technique using multiple small percutaneous 3 mm drillings. Total knee replacement was avoided in 59 knees (97%) at a mean follow-up of 3 years (2 to 4).

Basic purpose of issue was the attempt of a rating of a role and place modern digital chest fluorography in complex diagnostics of lower respiratory diseases accompanied acute pulmonary infiltrates. We studied 232 adults who hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) to Saratov Military Medical School Hospital during 1999-2003. In integration of methods of research the role digital chest fluorography as way of primary diagnostics and conducting means of the analysis of technology of rendering of medical aid is emphasized.

Proteins synthesized and released in vitro by oviducts collected from horse mares during estrus and at day 4 after ovulation for bred and nonbred mares were examined by two-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-D SDS PAGE) and fluorography. Ampullary and isthmic regions both produced a wide array of nondialyzable proteins in culture. Major proteins or groups of proteins identified according to relative molecular weight (kDa) and apparent isoelectric point (pI) were at 100 kDa, pI 8; 100-200 kDa, pI 6; 150 kDa, pI 4.

Published reports indicate that in several mammalian species the oviduct synthesizes and secretes specific glycoproteins which are components of the luminal fluids at the time of ovulation and fertilization. The present study characterized the secretory glycoproteins synthesized by the bovine oviduct at estrus. Oviducts obtained from four crossbred cows in estrus were flushed with saline, and segments of the ampullary and isthmic regions were fixed for immunocytochemical analyses.
