Background: Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) is associated with hypertension and vascular remodeling. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and the Hippo-YAP pathway are implicated in these processes, but their specific roles remain unclear. Background: COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, presents with varying severity among individuals. Both viral and host factors can influence the severity of acute and chronic COVID-19, with chronic COVID-19 commonly referred to as long COVID. SARS-CoV-2 infection can be properly diagnosed by performing real-time reverse transcription PCR analysis of nasal swab samples.

The perinatal period encompasses a critical window for neurodevelopment that renders the brain highly responsive to experience. Trauma, such as intimate partner violence (IPV) and early life stress/neglect, during this period negatively affects physical and mental health outcomes, including increasing ones risk for chronic pain. Although epigenetic programming likely contributes, the mechanisms that drive the relationship between perinatal trauma and adverse health outcomes, are not fully understood.
