Background: Exposure to ionizing radiation is inevitable due to its extensive use in industrial and medical applications. The search for effective and safe natural therapeutic agents as alternatives to chemical drugs is crucial to mitigate their side effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of citicoline as a standalone treatment or in combination with the anti-hepatotoxic drug silymarin in protecting against liver injury caused by γ-radiation in rats.

Objectives: Copaiba essential oil (CEO) is obtained through the distillation of copaiba balsam and has been used in the traditional medicine to treat inflammatory conditions. However, the highly lipophilic nature of CEO restricts its pharmaceutical use. This study evaluated the effect of CEO, carried in a self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS), on articular and systemic inflammation and liver changes in Holtzman rats with Freund's adjuvant-induced arthritis.

Uncontrolled bleeding and infection following trauma continue to pose significant clinical challenges. This study employs hemoadhican (HD) polysaccharide, known for its superior hemostatic properties, as the foundational material to synthesize antibacterial carbon dots (H-CDs) through a hydrothermal method at various temperatures. The H-CDs exhibiting optimal antimicrobial properties were identified via in vitro antimicrobial characterization.

Liver damage is one of the most severe side effects of valproic acid (VPA) therapy. Research indicates that PPAR-α prevents Wnt3a/β-catenin-induced PGC-1α dysregulation, which is linked to liver injury. Although PPAR-α activation has hepatoprotective effects, its role in preventing VPA-induced liver injury remains unclear.

Hemolytic anemia (HA) is characterized by massive destruction of red blood cells (RBCs) and insufficient oxygen supply, which can lead to shock, organ failure, even death. Recent studies have preliminarily demonstrated the therapeutic effectiveness of whole blood exchange (WBE) in the management of acute hemolytic anemia and exhibited potential for reducing the duration of corticosteroid treatment, while the underlying mechanism of WBE therapy was not investigated in preclinical study. Hence, we investigate the therapeutic mechanisms of WBE in HA through established continued WBE therapy in rats creatively.
