Developing and validating a HEalthCare NAvigation Competency (HECNAC) Scale for refugees in the United States.

PLoS One

January 2025

Health Promotion Sciences Department, Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, United States of America.

The complex healthcare system in the United States (US) poses significant challenges for people, particularly minorities such as refugees. Refugees often encounter additional layers of challenges to healthcare navigation due to unfamiliarity with the system, limited health literacy, and language barriers. Despite their challenges, it is difficult to identify the gaps as few tools exist to measure navigation competency among this population and many conventional tools assume English proficiency, making them inadequate for refugees and other immigrants.

We study the spreading dynamics of content on networks. To do this, we use a model in which content spreads through a bounded-confidence mechanism. In a bounded-confidence model (BCM) of opinion dynamics, the agents of a network have continuous-valued opinions, which they adjust when they interact with agents whose opinions are sufficiently close to theirs.

Estimating the trend of new infections was crucial for monitoring risk and for evaluating strategies and interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic revealed the utility of new data sources and highlighted challenges in interpreting surveillance indicators when changes in disease severity, testing practices or reporting occur. Our study aims to estimate the underlying trend in new COVID-19 infections by combining estimates of growth rates from all available surveillance indicators in Norway.

Multi-session tDCS over the posterior parietal cortex and associative memory.

PLoS One

January 2025

Human Neuroscience Group and Centre for Neuroscience and Neuromodulation, Institute for Medical Research, University of Belgrade, Belgrade, Serbia.

Associative memory (AM) plays a crucial role in our ability to link disparate elements of our experiences, yet it is especially vulnerable to age-related decline and pathological conditions. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), particularly transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), has been investigated as a potential intervention to enhance cognitive functions, including AM. Previous tDCS studies yielded inconsistent results, often due to variations in stimulation sites and protocols.
