Objective: Marine fishing ranks among the most hazardous occupations globally, with risks intensifying for small-sized vessels venturing deeper into the sea due to the scarcity of near-shore fish and high market demand. This study identifies various occupational hazards and the use of safety equipment among small-scale motorized fishers using traditional fishing methods in the southernmost coastal regions of India.
Methods: The primary data were collected from 253 artisanal small-scale motorized fishers through a multi-stage stratified random sampling method.

Fatigue curves quantify fish swimming performance, providing information about the time ([Formula: see text]) fish can swim against a steady flow velocity () before fatiguing. Such curves represent a key tool for many applications in ecological engineering, especially for fish pass design and management. Despite years of research, though, our current ability to model fatigue curves still lacks theoretical foundations and relies primarily on fitting empirical data, as obtained from time-consuming and costly experiments.

Dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase (DLD) deficiency is a recessive mitochondrial disease caused by variants in DLD, the E3 subunit of mitochondrial α-keto (or 2-oxo) acid dehydrogenase complexes. DLD disease symptoms are multisystemic, variably manifesting as Leigh syndrome, neurodevelopmental disability, seizures, cardiomyopathy, liver disease, fatigue, and lactic acidemia. While most DLD disease symptoms are attributed to dysfunction of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, the effects of other α-keto acid dehydrogenase deficiencies remain unclear.

Slow and sustainable intermittent swimming has recently been described in several Centrarchid fishes, such as bluegill and largemouth bass. This swimming behavior involves short periods of body-caudal fin undulation alternating with variable periods of coasting. This aerobic muscle powered swimming appears to reduce energetic costs for slow, sustainable swimming, with fish employing a "fixed-gear" or constant tailbeat frequency and modulating swimming speed by altering the length of the coasting period.

Humans have two features rare in mammals: our locomotor muscles are dominated by fatigue-resistant fibres and we effectively dissipate through sweating the metabolic heat generated through prolonged, elevated activity. A promising evolutionary explanation of these features is the endurance pursuit (EP) hypothesis, which argues that both traits evolved to facilitate running down game by persistence. However, this hypothesis has faced two challenges: running is energetically costly and accounts of EPs among late twentieth century foragers are rare.
