Mortality risk stratification for Takotsubo syndrome: Evaluating CRP measurement alongside the InterTAK prognostic score.

ESC Heart Fail

January 2025

Université de Strasbourg, Pôle d'Activité Médico-Chirurgicale Cardio-Vasculaire, Nouvel Hôpital Civil, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Strasbourg, France.

Background And Objectives: Initially described as a benign acute cardiomyopathy, Takotsubo syndrome has been linked to elevated mortality rates. Emerging evidence suggests that unresolved myocardial inflammation may contribute to this adverse prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the incremental prognostic utility of C-reactive protein (CRP) in conjunction with the InterTAK prognosis score for stratifying long-term mortality in Takotsubo syndrome.

Cancer Research UK Scotland Centre (Edinburgh), Institute of Genetics & Cancer, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK.

E-cadherin is a transmembrane protein and central component of adherens junctions (AJs). The extracellular domain of E-cadherin forms homotypic interactions with E-cadherin on adjacent cells, facilitating the formation of cell-cell adhesions, known as AJs, between neighbouring cells. The intracellular domain of E-cadherin interacts with α-, β- and p120-catenins, linking the AJs to the actin cytoskeleton.

VEXAS syndrome is a complex hemato-inflammatory disorder, driven by somatic mutations in the UBA1 gene within hematopoietic precursor cells. It is characterized by systemic inflammation, rheumatological manifestations, and frequent association with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). We present a series of four VEXAS cases, all of which include concomitant MDS, each displaying distinct genetic signatures and clinical features at diagnosis, with a focus on their diagnostic and therapeutic implications.

Objective: Prior research has emphasized psychological resilience as a potential protective factor against alcohol use disorder in diverse populations, with limited exploration of its relationship in the general population. This study investigated the association between the lifetime and one-year prevalence of alcohol use disorder and resilience.

Methods: Data obtained from the National Mental Health Survey of Korea 2021 (5,511 participants; 40.
