Bioadhesive supramolecular polymer/hyaluronic acid hydrogel with sustained release of zinc ions and dexamethasone for diabetic wound healing.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

The 8th Clinical Medical College, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Foshan 528000, Guangdong, PR China. Electronic address:

Diabetic patients often struggle with wound healing and are at higher risk of infections, necessitating the development of a stretchable, adhesive hydrogel dressing with antibacterial and angiogenesis-promoting properties. In this study, we synthesized a series of adhesive, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory hydrogels using free radical polymerization with materials including methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA), N-[tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl]acrylamide (THMA), and 3-(bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)propyl methacrylate (DPAMA). By leveraging the strong affinity of zinc(II)-dipicolylamine coordination complexes for the phosphorylated groups in dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DMSP), Zn and DMSP were successfully incorporated into the hydrogel.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate whether oral zinc or copper supplementation affected the efficacy and sustainability of botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) injection in masseter muscle of albino rats.

Materials And Methods: 32 adult male albino rats were allocated equally into four groups: group I (control), group II received 10U BTX-A injection, group III received 10U BTX-A injection + zinc (1 mg, 4 days pre-injection), and group IV received 10U BTX-A injection + copper (0.04 mg, 7 days post-injection).

Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) exhibit diverse applications, including antimicrobial, UV-blocking, and catalytic properties, due to their unique structure and properties. This study focused on the characterization of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesized from Juglans regia leaves and their application in mitigating the impact of simultaneous infection by (root-knot nematode) and (root-rot fungus) in cowpea plants. The characterization of ZnO NPs was carried out through various analytical techniques, including UV-visible spectrophotometry, Powder-XRD analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, and SEM-EDX analysis.

The present work is aimed to assess the protective influence of zinc oxide resveratrol nanoparticles against oxidative stress-associated testicular dysfunction. The number of 50 male albino rats were randomly separated into five groups (n = 10): Group I, control: rats gavage distilled water orally; Group II, Levofloxacin: rats that administered Levofloxacin (LFX) softened in distilled water at a dosage of 40 mg/kg BW orally every other day; Group III, Zn-RSV: rats administered with Zn-RSV (zinc oxide resveratrol in distilled water at a dose 20 mg/kg BW orally every other day; Group IV, (LFX + Zn-RSV): rats that were administered with Levofloxacin along with Zn-RSV nPs; Group V, Levofloxacin + Zn: rats were administered with Levofloxacin and Zno at a dose of 20 mg/kg BW orally every other day as mentioned before. This study lasted for 2 months.
