Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology, Eye & ENT Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Clinical Relevance: Accommodation is crucial for clear near vision and is predominantly affected by presbyopia. The ability to modulate accommodative function with eye drops could offer a pharmacological approach to manage presbyopia.

Background: To investigate the effects of different concentrations of pilocarpine eye drops on ocular accommodation in young volunteers.

: Despite the availability of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) that can manage seizures, they often come with cognitive side effects. Furthermore, the role of oxidative stress and neuroinflammatory responses in epilepsy and the limitations of current AEDs necessitate exploring alternative therapeutic options. Medicinal plants, e.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects nearly 50 million people worldwide. Experimental evidence suggests that epileptic neurons are linked to the endocannabinoid system and that inhibition of the FAAH enzyme could have neuroprotective effects by increasing the levels of endogenous endocannabinoid anandamide. In this context, the use of macamides as therapeutic agents in neurological diseases has increased in recent years.

Mutations in methyl CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2) are linked to Rett syndrome, in which epilepsy is one of the most well-described disorders. However, little is known about the specific role of MeCP2 during epileptogenesis. Our previous study has demonstrated that MeCP2 has a unique control on the development of mossy fiber sprouting (MFS) in the epileptic hippocampus.

Methionine sulfoximine (MSO) is a compound originally discovered as a byproduct of agene-based milled flour maturation. MSO irreversibly inhibits the astrocytic enzyme glutamine synthase (GS) but also interferes with the transport of glutamine (Gln) and of glutamate (Glu), and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) synthesized within the Glu/Gln-GABA cycle, in this way dysregulating neurotransmission balance in favor of excitation. No wonder that intraperitoneal administration of MSO has long been known to induce behavioral and/or electrographic seizures.
