The approval of Epidiolex, an anti-epileptic drug containing cannabidiol (CBD) as its active component, has brought hope to patients with refractory epilepsy. However, the anti-seizure effect of full-spectrum hemp extract (HE), a CBD-enriched hemp oil, remains unclear. Cisplatin-based platinum compounds are important clinical chemotherapeutic agents that participate in most tumor chemotherapy regimens. Through density-functional theory calculations, the formation and stability of the inorganic oxide carrier, the mechanisms of the hydrolysis reaction of the activated platinum compound, and its binding mechanism with DNA bases can be studied. The higher the oxidation state of Pt (II to IV), the more electrons transfer from the magnesia-gold composite material to the platinum compound.

Accurate methods for assessing food freshness through colorimetric pH response play a critical role in determining food spoilage and ensuring food quality standards. This study introduces a novel unlabeled DNA sequence, poly-dA, designed to exploit the colorimetric properties of both the single strand and the fold-back A-motif structure in conjunction with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) under varying pH conditions. When exposed to storage temperatures of 4 °C and 25 °C, the color variations in the AuNP solution, influenced by pH level changes in mutton and sea bass samples' different storage periods, are easily discernible to the naked eye within a minute.

The catalytic behavior of a material is influenced by ensembles─the geometric configuration of atoms on the surface. In conventional material systems, ensemble effects and the electronic structure are coupled because these strategies focus on varying the material composition, making it difficult to understand the role of ensembles in isolation. This study introduces a methodology that separates geometric effects from the electronic structure.

Glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) expression on white adipocytes is critical for absorbing excess blood glucose, failure of which promotes hyperglycemia. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play a crucial role in remodeling the white adipose tissue (WAT) during obesity. MMPs have multiple protein substrates, and surprisingly, it is unknown if they can directly target GLUT4 on the adipocyte surface and impair glucose absorption.
